On Thursday, the city authorities in Split received delegations of the Croatian handball federation and the European EHF associations.
EHF President Michael Wiederer said at the reception that the contest had attracted great interest, with 175 countries following the event.
Furthermore, 1,260 journalists and media staffers have been accredited for the competition.
Wiederer underlined the fact that Croatia was the first country to be awarded the hosting of the event twice. It first hosted the event in 2000.
As many as 16 national teams will compete in four groups.
The championships will kick off on Friday with Croatia, former Olympic and world champion, taking on Serbia in Split's Spaladium Arena.
