Author: Marija Šestan

ZAGREB, Jan 6 (Hina) - During 2017, a total of 262 flats were built and became occupied by tenants under the so-called POS scheme of government-sponsored economic assistance for affordable housing.

Last year, the 262 POS flats were finished in Split, Gospic, Umag and Mali Losinj, while some more under construction are in Fazana, Metkovic, Punat on the island of Krk, as well as in Sibenik, Koprivnica and Varazdin.

There are plans to start constructing POS flats in Baska, Cres, Kraljevica, Labin, Lovran, Omisalj, Djrudjevac, Solin, Split, Vrgorac, Zadar and Zagreb.

Since the launch of this scheme of subsidised housing in 2001, a total of 8,032 flats in 237 buildings have been constructed, and the total value of this investment so far has been estimated at HRK 4.2 billion (560 million euros), and of that amount, 1.1 billion kuna (EUR 146 million) has been ensured as state subsidies, according to a press release issued by the Construction and Zoning Ministry.

There are a few POS models to help first-time home buyers in search for affordable housing.
