The STH said it expected business hours during the holidays to be regulated in line with the law, while respecting workers' interests, and cited solutions in other European Union countries.
Employers say they must work during the holidays because of the competition, so we call on everyone to shorten their business hours ahead of the holidays, to be open until 1 pm on December 24 and 31, and to stay closed on the holidays, the STH said.
The union said it realised that December was one of the peak turnover months, but that it was unhappy with the business hours during this month, notably ahead of and during the holidays, and that it expected employers to show social responsibility towards workers and enable them to rest.
It added that due to a disorganised working days schedule, workers could not plan a private life, and that this was against Croatian regulations.
