The campaign kicks off in Zagreb's Main Square on Saturday, 4 November, with a gathering of doctors, medical staff, patients and high-profile athletes and celebrities who will comment on the importance of early detection of cancer and encourage men to have annual check-ups and adopt a healthier lifestyle.
Prostate cancer was the cause of death of 824 Croatian men in 2015, which was a 10% rise from 2014,
Doctor Egidio Cepulic, who heads the Croatian society of prostate cancer patients, said that this was the second most common type of cancer and the third leading cause of cancer-related death in men in Croatia.
He described these figures as devastating, noting that this disease is curable when diagnosed at an early stage.
Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing increases cancer detection, and doctor Zeljko Kastelan pointed out the importance of annual urological tests for men above 50.
