Bozinovic: Interpol's Zagreb office among ten most active in the world

Author: Vojo Micak

ZAGREB, Oct 17 (Hina) - Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic said on Tuesday that Interpol's Zagreb office was among the organisation's ten most active offices in the world, adding that this year it had checked 42 million people, 45 million passports and 23 million vehicles.

Bozinovic opened the Interpol Firearm Forensic Symposium 2017 in Dubrovnik, which brought together about 300 experts from 70 countries.

The Croatian police service was the first to introduce mobile access to Interpol databases, so that information can be obtained on the road or at the border. In addition, we have already introduced the Schengen information system. Based on that, we have been recognised in the world as an active and innovative member and some of our solutions have been accepted by the police services of other Interpol member states, Bozinovic said.

Interpol Secretary General Jurgen Stock said that Croatia was one of Interpol's main partners.

Croatia is among the ten countries that use Interpol's vehicle and passport authentication interface the most. Croatia took part in Interpol's operation against arms trafficking this year, which involved 8,000 police officers from 23 countries and resulted in 149 arrests and seizures of firearms, ammunition and explosives, Stock said.

The symposium brought together criminal investigation experts, forensic experts and representatives of companies specialising in firearms forensics.

Croatia joined Interpol in 1992.
