ZAGREB, Oct 9 (Hina) - Jadrolinija, a major Croatian passenger ship company, is going to renew a part of its fleet in the next four years, according to announcements made at the 42nd Interferry conference in the biggest Croatian Adriatic city of Split on Monday.

Jadrolinija management board chair David Sopta said that this state-owned Croatian sea shipping company would replace old  vessels with state-of-the-art ones in a bid to enhance the capacity and quality of transport.

Addressing the conference, Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic underscored the importance of the ferry transport for Croatia that has over 1,000 islands.

A special emphasis should be put on improving the connectivity of islands in order to improve the living standards of island residents, Plenkovic said.

The 2017 Interferry Conference is taking place in Split on October 7-11. Since its creation in 1976, one of Interferry’s primary functions has been to facilitate networking and cooperation within the ferry industry throughout the globe.

The chairman of the Interferry conference and a former Jadrolinija management board chairman, Alan Klanac, said that in terms of total passenger transport capacity, Jadrolinija was among the top five companies in the world.
