According to the police records, in the whole of 2016, two children lost their lives in traffic accidents, and in the first seven months of this year, five children were killed in road accidents, Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic said, warning that in 60% of such accidents with fatalities, children were passengers in the vehicles driven by their parents.
The police drive "Respect our signs" has been conducted since 1995.
On Monday, slightly over a half million pupils begin their new school year, and of them, 40,000 are first graders.
Speaking about traffic accident fatalities, Minister Bozinovic said today that in Europe, 70 died in traffic accidents every day and hundreds suffer injuries.
