Lucky loser wins 28th edition of Umag tennis tournament

ZAGREB, July 24 (Hina) - Andrey Rublev, a 19-year-old Russian tennis player, is the winner of the 28th edition of the tennis tournament in the Croatian seaside resort of Umag, after he beat Italian Paolo Lorenzi 6-4, 6-2 in the final on Sunday evening.

It was the first career title for this Russian player who lost a match in the qualifying round of the tournament but was invited to the main draw to replace Croatian Borna Coric who withdrew from the contest.

Rublev, as lucky loser reached his first ATP singles final at the Umag Open, beating in the quarterfinals defending champion Fabio Fognini. In the final he beat Lorenzi in straight sets to win his first ATP singles title.

This 250-level ATP men's tennis tournament  is played on red clay courts. Carlos Moya has won the tournament a record five times.

The prize money for the winner was EUR 87,000.
