The hotel forms part of the Maskovica Han complex, the greatest monument of Ottoman architecture in Croatia, built in 1644. The reconstruction of the complex was completed in the summer of 2015.
The Maskovica Han is a brilliant cultural monument and will certainly draw tourists, Plenkovic said, adding that the project was supported with EU funding and could be used as a model for similar projects elsewhere in Dalmatia.
The opening ceremony was also attended by Culture Minister Nina Obuljen Korzinek, who spoke of the reconstruction process.
The opening of the hotel marked the completion of the Maskovica Han reconstruction project, worth about 4 million euros. Seventy-five percent of the funds came from the EU's IPA programme and the rest from the Culture Ministry budget.
The hotel has 14 rooms, two suites, a restaurant, a small conference room, a souvenir shop, a wine shop, a small museum, and tourist info points.
