The opening of the new ward was attended by Health Minister Milan Kujundzic, who said that it was yet another proof that Croatian medicine was following global trends.
He announced that talks were underway on introducing bowel transplants in the foreseeable future at KBC Zagreb or Zagreb's Merkur hospital.
The head of the Department for Gastroenterology and Hematology, Zeljko Krznaric, said that the new ward would treat about 50 patients with more severe cases of intestinal failure per year as well as several hundreds of patients with temporary intestinal failures that are a consequence of surgical procedures.
