Hungary partner country of 47th Varazdin Baroque Evenings

ZAGREB, June 7 (Hina) - Hungary will be the partner country of the 47th edition of the Varazdin Baroque Evenings, scheduled to be held between 22 September and 2 October in the biggest northern Croatian city.

Hungarian Ambassador to Croatia Jozsef Magyar has said the festival will most definitely help erase mental and cultural boundaries north of Varazdin and improve cultural ties between the Croat and the Hungarian people.

A festival of national importance, Varazdin Baroque Evenings, is the most prominent music-scene event of the central Croatia, founded in 1971. Today, it is one of the best-known festival, specialised in early music, in the world.

The festival is under the auspices of Croatia's President and Ministry of Culture and has national status for twenty years.

For seven years, the festival has partner country. Up to now, the country partner were Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Israel, Austria, Russian Federation, Italy, and France, Spain and this year it will be Hungary.

Croatian Assistant Culture Minister Iva Hraste Soco said that Hungary had expressed great interest in the festival which united the spiritual heritage of Croatia and Europe. She added that partner country of the next -- the 48th -- edition of the festival would be Japan.
