Addressing those at the opening, Dutch Ambassador Ellen Berends explained that the exhibition was organised in honour of the king's birthday, which is a national holiday in the Netherlands.
The bilingual Tulip exhibition presents the story of that national symbol on 30 panels placed outside the Dutch Ambassador's residence and will remain there until the end of May.
Tulips are the Netherlands' national symbol, Berends said at the opening, which was attended by numerous diplomats.
With this exhibition we wanted to present the history and origins of tulips and their presence in art, the economy, tourism and imagination, she said.
Kostelic, the state secretary for sports and an Olympic Alpine skiing winner, is the only Croatian that has a tulip named after her, a red Triumph Tulip.
