The campaign was organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) for the eleventh year in a row to draw attention to one of the biggest problems of today -- climate change.
Lights were switched off on the Walls of Dubrovnik, Pula's Arena amphitheatre, the Zagreb Cathedral and in the centres of Rijeka, Sibenik, Trogir, Varazdin, Pozega, Vinkovci and other towns.
In that way they joined over 7,000 cities and towns in 178 countries across the globe in support of efforts to prevent climate change. Last year, 68 Croatian cities and towns took part in the campaign.
The Earth Hour initiative was launched in Sydney, Australia in 2007 when 2.2 million people and over 2,000 businesses turned off their lights to raise their voice against climate change. A year later it became a world-wide movement with more than 50 million participants in 35 countries across the globe. It is the largest global voluntary action in history.
