Of the 36,372 children entered in the Register of Births, 18,474 were boys and 17,898 girls. Most of the children, 11,630, were born in Zagreb, 4,200 were born in Split-Dalmatia County, 2,548 in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, and 2,383 in Osijek-Baranja County.
The most popular name given to boys was Luka (906), followed by David, Ivan, Jakov, Marko, Petar, Matej, Filip, Leon and Ivano, while the most popular name given to girls was Mia (611), followed by Lucija, Ema, Petra, Sara, Lana, Ana, Nika, Marta and Iva.
Last year, 20,544 marriages were entered in the Register of Marriages, of which 10,979 were religious marriages and 9,565 civil marriages. Religious marriages were prevalent in 13 counties, most of them recorded in Split-Dalmatia County (1,454 religious marriages against 896 civil marriages). In the remaining eight counties more civil marriages than religious ones were contracted; most of them were recorded in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County (691 civil marriages against 522 religious ones), Istria County (591 : 421) and the City of Zagreb (1,912 : 1,815).
A total of 18,671 marriages were entered into by Croatian nationals, 479 by foreign nationals, and 1,393 by mixed couples (a Croatian and a foreign national). Sixty-six same-sex couples entered into a life partnership, most of them in Zagreb (39) and Istria (8).
Last year, 52,034 persons were entered in the Register of Deaths, of whom 25,717 were male and 26,317 were female.
