According to the Gender Equality Index, with an overall score of 52.9 out of 100, the EU is only halfway towards equality. The women's employment rate in 2015 was 64% and was the highest to date. Although women are more educated on average, the difference in salaries in relation to men is 16.1%, while the difference in pensions is 40%.
In national parliaments, the share of women went up from 21% in 2005 to 28% in 2016 and in the EP from 30 to 37%.
In the Gender Equality Index, Croatia has a score of 39.8 out of a possible 100 points. Sweden has the best score (74.2), while Romania has the lowest (33.7). The index measures work money, knowledge, time, power and health.
