Cappelli: Joint Croatian and Slovenian tourism promotion important for better global visibility

Author: Vojo Micak

ZAGREB, Feb 3 (Hina) - Croatia and Slovenia are much more visible on the global market through joint tourism promotion, especially in remote markets which perceive Europe as a single destination, Croatian Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli said during a visit to Slovenia on Friday.

Cappelli was in Ljubljana to attend the Natour Alpe-Adria travel show.

"The cooperation between Croatia and Slovenia in tourism promotion has been good for years, and the Slovenian partners with whom I talked today are interested in continuing joint promotion because in that way we gain an international dimension and recognition," he said.

Cappelli presented activities relating to investments in the tourism sector, which amount to 800 million euros this year. He announced the opening of about 40 new or renovated hotels and informed the travel agencies of higher tourist taxes this year.

Cappelli met with the head of the Slovenian Spa Association, Iztok Altbauer, to discuss cooperation in health tourism. Altbauer said that health tourism was Slovenia's best-known tourism product which generates a third of all tourist overnight stays in the country. Cappelli said that health tourism was a priority for Croatia as well and efforts would be stepped up in that regard.

Marjanca Antic of the Slovenian travel agency Kompas Novo Mesto proposed that a joint tourist project be organised on the River Krka through the Interreg cross-border cooperation programme between Croatia and Slovenia and that it include Austria as well.
