Prices of housing units rise

ZAGREB, Jan 19 (Hina) - Prices of housing units, measured by the house price index, grew in the third quarter of 2016 by 1.03% on average compared to Q2, while compared to the third quarter of 2015, they were 1.46% higher, show statistics provided by the national statistical office (DZS).

Prices of new housing units in Q3 2016 were 0.91% higher on average than in Q2, however, compared to Q3 2015, their prices dropped by 4.27% on average.

Prices of previously owned housing units grew both on the quarterly and the annual level - compared to Q2 2016, they were 1.05% higher on average, while compared to Q3 2015, they were 2.95% higher.

Prices of housing units in Q3 2016 were higher than in Q2 in the City of Zagreb, by 2.05% on average, and on the Adriatic coast they were 1.46% higher. In other parts of the country, they were 2.76% down on average.

On the year, prices of housing units in Zagreb grew by 2.05% on average, on the Adriatic coast they increased 1.78% on average, while in other parts of the country they dropped 1.41% on average.

The Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) has said that these figures show that the market has stabilised with the start of a new construction cycle, as evidenced by issued building permits, whose number in the first 11 months of 2016 was 28.7% higher for new apartment buildings than in the same period of 2015, with the number of construction permits for flats having increased 31.4%.

Prices of housing units in the European Union in Q3 2016 grew 4.3% on the year, and in the euro area they went up 3.4%.

Compared to Q2 2016, those prices were 1.3% higher in the euro area and 1.5% higher in the EU.
