Croatian athletes won a record ten medals at this year's Olympic Games in Rio de Jainero, of which five were gold, and most of those athletes were given awards at the HOO ceremony.
The award for the best pair, relay or crew was shared by gold-winning rowers Valent and Martin Sinkovic and gold-winning sailors Sime Fantela and Igor Marenic. Rower Damir Martin, who won a silver medal at the Olympics, won an award for fair play, while the silver medalist waterpolo team won the Team of the Year award.
This is Perkovic's fifth Athlete of the Year title, which puts her in the company of Alpine skier Janica Kostelic and high jumper Blanka Vlasic, who each have five such titles, however, the two-time Olympic winner in the discus throw won her five HOO titles consecutively.
