Author: Hari Alfeo

ZAGREB, Dec 15 (Hina) - Contracts worth HRK 61.6 million, mostly to come from European Union funds, were signed in the coastal town of Ston near Dubrovnik on Thursday for the "History on a grain of salt" project.

Municipal head Vedran Antunica, one of the signatories, said Ston's walls were the longest in Europe. The walls are 5.5 km long, have 40 towers and five fortresses.

Another signatory, Regional Development and EU Funds Minister Gabrijela Zalac, said this reconstruction project would contribute to Ston's tourism potential. "Ston's walls are the longest in Europe and the second longest in the world," she said, adding that she was looking forward to "the renovation many fortresses as part of this project."

Culture Minister Nina Obuljen Korzinek underlined the importance of cooperation on the local level to show how to utilise the potential of cultural heritage for economic and tourism development.

Eighty-five percent of the project's cost (HRK 48 million) will come from grants.
