The message also notes that "the importance of civil aviation for the economy is unquestionable. Nevertheless, the public is not yet sufficiently informed of the nature of the job of those responsible for the safety and security of hundreds of passengers every day."
"Although it is often portrayed in a romantic light, the profession of commercial pilot is very demanding," reads the message and underscores that the air transport in the European Union is currently undergoing reconstruction and "is waging a battle for its survival".
Likewise, many European airline companies "are losing market share to companies in the neighbourhood from Turkey, the Middle East and Asia."
Consequently, the number of the personnel in European airlines is being reduced, and professionals are being employed in the growing markets, according to the message of the trade union.
In Croatia, a quarter of all civil pilots have left Croatia in the last four years, the trade union warns.
