Growing demand for flowers ahead of All Saints' Day

Author: Vojo Micak

ZAGREB, Oct 30 (Hina) - There has been growing demand for flowers in Croatia ahead of All Saints' Day on November 1, and last October the country imported 128 tonnes of flowers worth 644,000 euros, while exporting only 22 tonnes, the Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) said on Sunday.

In October 2015 Croatia imported five tonnes more than in October 2014, and of the 128 tonnes imported as many as 105 tonnes came from the Netherlands.

Croatia annually imports 1,376 tonnes of flowers worth EUR 7.44 million, while at the same time it exports only 152 tonnes, valued at EUR 960,000.

Imports of candles are twice as large as exports, even though exports increased considerably in 2015.

Exports of candles tripled last year, from EUR 664,000 in 2014 to EUR 2 million in 2015. Nearly half the exports went to Slovenia.

Last year Croatia imported EUR 4.67 million worth of candles, mostly from Germany and Poland. By comparison, imports of candles in 2014 totalled EUR 4.43 million.
