Author: Hari Alfeo

ZAGREB, Oct 2 (Hina) - Mali Losinj, a town on the northern Adriatic island of Losinj, has received the 'Top 100 Sustainable Destinations in the World' certificate, the town's tourist board has said.

The prestigious certificate, jointly awarded by Green Destinations, TravelMole, Destination Stewardship Center, Asian Ecotourism Network and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, was presented to the town's mayor and president of its tourist board, Gari Cappelli, at the “Global Green Destination Day” conference held in Ljubljana on September 27-28.

"By receiving this certificate, Losinj has become part of the world's biggest green destination community, proving its place among the world's recognisable destinations, and has been awarded for the effort it puts in sustainability thanks to the synergy of visitors and residents. Based on that, Losinj, as an island of vitality, is also considered a long term destination which connects natural beauty and landscape preservation with the quality of life on the island,” said Cappelli.

In order to qualify for the Top 100 Sustainable Destinations in the World, it was necessary to meet 15 main criteria that make a destination responsible and green (nature and landscape, climate and environment, culture and traditions, people, hospitality, and sustainable destination management).

At the Ljubljana conference, Mali Losinj presented its Apoxyomenos Museum and the "Friendship between Losinj and Dolphins" project. Also presented was the World Green Map initiative, which includes five Croatian destinations - Mali Losinj, Krk, Pula, Gorski Kotar, Delnice and Drnis.
