HDZ wins election in six constituencies

ZAGREB, Sept 12 (Hina) - Unofficial results of Sunday's parliamentary vote, published by the State Election Commission (DIP) after returns from 99% of polling stations were processed, show that the conservative Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) is a relative winner of the early parliamentary elections, winning the election in six constituencies as well as two votes from the diaspora, while the Social Democratic Party (SDP)-led People's Coalition won the election in four constituencies.

The HDZ has secured a victory in Constituencies Nos. 2, 4, 5, 6, 9 and 10, while the People's coalition won in Constituencies Nos. 1, 3, 7 and 8.

In Constituency No. 1, which covers the northwestern part of Zagreb County, a part of downtown Zagreb and the city's western parts, the election has been won by the SDP-led coalition, with 39.34% of the vote. It is followed by the HDZ with 31.64% of the vote. The Bridge party has won 10.43% of the vote in that constituency, while the Human Shield party won 5.88% of the vote.

In Constituency No. 2 (the eastern part of Zagreb County, Koprivnica-Krizevci and Bjelovar-Bilogora counties and the eastern part of the City of Zagreb), the HDZ is in the lead with 35.54% of the vote. It is followed by the SDP-led coalition with 35.22% of the vote. A coalition of parties led by Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandic, secured 9.24% of the vote, while Bridge won 8.61% of the vote.

In Constituency No. 3 (Krapina-Zagorje, Varazdin and Medjimurje counties), the People's Coalition has secured a convincing victory, with 52.56% of the vote, followed by the HDZ with 24.70% of the vote, Human Shield with 6.63% and Bridge with 5.92% of the vote. 

The HDZ has secured a victory in Constituency No. 4 (Virovitica-Podravina and Osijek-Baranja counties), with 38.25% of the vote. The People's Coalition follows with 29.59% of the vote, while the Croatian Democratic Party of Slavonia and Baranja (HDSSB) has won 9.84% of the vote. Bridge has won 8.48% of the vote in Constituency No. 4, while Human Shield secured 7.16%.

The HDZ has won the election also in Constituency No. 5 (Pozega-Slavonia, Brod-Posavina and Vukovar-Srijem counties), with 47.11% of the vote. The SDP-led coalition follows with 25.23% of the vote and Bridge is third, with 9.5% of the vote. Human Shield follows with 5.46% of the vote in that constituency.

In Constituency No. 6, which covers the southeastern part of Zagreb County, Sisak-Moslavina County and the southeastern part of the City of Zagreb, the HDZ is in the lead with 35.08% of the vote, followed by the SDP-led coalition with 34.55%. Bridge has won 9.27% of the vote and Bandic's coalition 7.58%. 

In Constituency No. 7 (the southwestern part of Zagreb County, Karlovac County, the eastern part of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and the southern part of the City of Zagreb), the SDP-led is in the lead with 34.49%, followed by the HDZ with 35.13%. Bridge has won 9.11% of the vote and Human Shield 8.51%.

The People's Coalition is in the lead in Constituency No. 8 which covers Istria County and the western part of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, with 36.69% of the vote. A coalition led by the Istrian Democratic Party (IDS) has won 22.88% of the vote, the HDZ 20.02%, Human Shield 7.63% and Bridge 6.48% of the vote.

The HDZ's main stronghold, Constituency No. 9, which covers Lika-Senj, Zadar and Sibenik-Knin counties and the northern part of Split-Dalmatia County, has brought the HDZ 49.62% of the vote. The SDP-led coalition has won 24.03% of the vote in that constituency and Bridge 12.75% of the vote.

Most voters in Constituency No. 10 (Split-Dalmatia and Dubrovnik-Neretva counties) have opted for the HDZ, which has won 43.53% of the vote there. The SDP-led coalition has won 27.32% of the vote, and Bridge 16.63%.

Constituency No. 11, which is designed for Croatian nationals without residence in Croatia, has given the two votes to the HDZ, which has been supported by 62.56% of voters in that constituency, and one vote to the Independent Slate of Zeljko Glasnovic..

Eight deputies in the Sabor are elected by ethnic minorities.
