Croatia has absorbed EUR 662M from EU funds YTD

Author: Marija Šestan

ZAGREB, Aug 26 (Hina) - Croatia has absorbed EUR 662 million (approximately 5 billion kuna) from the European Union's funds since the start of this year, and is "in the green" by 3 billion kuna (400 million euros) compared to the amount Zagreb has paid into the EU budget, according to information provided by the Regional Development and EU Funds Ministry on Friday.

The ministry notes that most of those funds have been allotted to projects in the fields of transport, environment protection, SMEs, dormitory upgrading, R&D, and cultural heritage preservation.

In the whole of 2015, the absorption of EU funds in Croatia stood at EUR 558 million, and at EUR 548 a year before.

The difference between the transfer of grants to Croatian projects and Croatia's contribution to the EU budget was small in the previous years, and this year this difference has been rising to Croatia's advantage, according to the statement in which Minister Tomislav Tolusic boasts of positive results, saying that they are owing to procedures having been simplified and a more efficient system having been established since he took office.
