Author: Vojo Micak

ZAGREB, July 29 (Hina) - A grant agreement for the ForestFlow project under the IPA cross-border cooperation programme Croatia-Serbia 2007-2013 was signed in the eastern Croatian town of Vinkovci on Friday.

The document was signed by the chairman of the management board of the Croatian forest management company Hrvatske Sume, Ivan Pavelic, and the acting director of the Croatian Regional Development Agency, Matilda Copic.

"The ForestFlow project is the fourth IPA cross-border cooperation project involving Hrvatske Sume and the largest yet. The project budget is 1.4 million euros, of which 85 percent is covered by EU funding. Half of this amount goes to Croatia and the other half to our partners in Serbia. There is more potential for similar projects and we will certainly not stop here," Pavelic said.

The general objective of the project is to rebuild areas devastated by flooding in 2014 and develop effective flood protection systems in the border areas of Vukovar-Srijem County and Srijem District.

After the signing ceremony, a project called "Naturavita - Demining, restoration and protection of forests and forest land in protected and Natura 2000 sites in the Danube-Drava region" was presented. The value of the project is EUR 48 million, of which 85% is to be covered by EU funding, and its implementation is expected to start on 1 January 2017.

A EUR 700,000 agreement was also signed in Vinkovci on Thursday under the Croatia-Serbia IPA cross-border cooperation programme to improve the quality of life of disabled people. The project is called "Boards without borders: improving life quality for marginalised groups through people to people approach". As part of this project, four vans and three boats have been purchased for the transport of disabled people.
