At the end of last year, there were 8.74 million personal and corporate payment cards in Croatia, up 0.9 percent on the year. There were 6.88 million debt cards (+0.7%) and 1.86 credit cards (+1.9%).
Fifty-two percent of Croatia's population (2.23 million) had only a debit card, while 1.12% had a credit card (26% of the population). There were 1.94 payment cards per citizen - 1.52 debit and 0.42 credit cards. Also, 63% of holders had cards from only one issuer, 27% from two and 10% from three or more issuers.
In 2015, 26 credit institutions and two electronic money institutions issued payment cards in Croatia. Their clients made 366.22 million transactions totalling HRK 132.6 billion. Compared to 2014, the number of transactions went up 7% and their value by 4%. Seven transactions were made with one card in one month on average, totalling HRK 2,539.
