Two more sculptures made by Dina Merhav set up in Vinkovci

Author: Ivana Tomičić Šušak

ZAGREB, July 24 (Hina) - Two new sculptures from the opus "Flying Birds" by Israeli sculptor Dina Merhav  were set up in a park in the eastern Croatian city of Vinkovci where this Israeli artist was born in 1936.

Last year, 11 pieces by this prominent sculptor were set up in that park.

Merhav, who works in her sculpture studio in Kibbutz Nir Ezion and lives in Ein Hod, has donated those sculptures to Vinkovci where her family lived until the Second World War.

Dina Merhav was born in Vinkovci to a Croatian Jewish family of Zlatko and Steffi Gross. During World War II her father, as a Royal Yugoslav Army officer, was captured and imprisoned in a war camp in Germany. Dina, her mother and rest of the family managed to escape to Split, from there to Switzerland through Italy. After the war they returned to Croatia to be reunited with Dina's father. In 1949 whole family immigrated into Israel.

Works by this sculptor are put on display in public spaces in Israel, India, Switzerland, Canada, the USA and China.
