25 German students to study at Split School of Medicine

Author: Snježana Pezer

ZAGREB, July 11 (Hina) - The first generation of German students will enrol in the Split School of Medicine in the coming academic year, the school's dean, Zoran Djogas, reported on Monday.

The first generation will consist of 25 students from Bavaria and each will pay an annual fee of 9,000 euro to study at the Split University, said Djogas.

These 25 students will listen to lectures in English. About 60 students study medicine in English at our school and the enrolment of these students from Germany is a great recognition for our Medical School and Croatia in general, Djogas told Hina.

The final agreement for the enrolment of these German students was achieved at a meeting over the weekend in the Bavarian town of Coburg and was attended among others by Education Minister Predrag Sustar and Bavaria's Minister of Health and Science Melanie Hulm.

Djogas explained that the agreement was possible following an agreement on cooperation between the Split School of Medicine and the Regiment Kliniken from Bavaria signed in Split in March. Djogas on that occasion said that the agreement was part of a big plan by German hospitals where there is a deficit of medical staff and that they wanted their future medics to study in good institutions.

"These students will receive diplomas that are recognised in Germany and the European Union and will be able to work in the Regiment Kliniken in Bavaria," Djogas said, adding that it will be honour to educate German students.

The director of the Regiment Kliniken Joachim Bovelet then said that medical institutions in Germany have recognised the value of the Split School of Medicine.

"We know a fair bit about the excellence of quality of Split's Medical School and the signing of this agreement was contributed to by former education minister Dragan Primorac with whom we have been working with for years," Bovelet explained in March in Split.
