Economic sentiment in Croatia significantly improves in June

ZAGREB, June 29 (Hina) - Economic sentiment in Croatia has significantly improved in June, for the first time in six months, while it remained broadly unchanged in the euro area and the EU, according to the "Business and Consumer Survey Results" monthly report which the European Commission released on Wednesday.

The Economic Sentiment Index (ESI) in Croatia was up 1.7 points in June on the month, amounting to 11.8 points, the EC report read. This is the first significant growth since late 2015.

The sentiment in June improved in a majority of sectors in Croatia's economy, increasing the most in the retail sector, the sub-index of which soared 6.9% on the month to 16.8 points. Significant improvements were recorded in industry. Industry confidence was up from zero to 2.9 points.

Service confidence recorded a slight increase of 0.5% to 16.3 points. Construction sentiment and consumer sentiment were the only ones to record a decrease, easing 0.4 and 0.7 points respectively to -12.6 and -20.8 points, according to the EC report.

In June, after two consecutive months of improved readings, the ESI remained broadly unchanged in both the euro area (-0.2 points to 104.4) and the EU (+0.1 points to 105.7).

Sentiment improved only in industry.
