The appeal was prompted by a recent purchase of four CT and nine MSCT devices worth HRK 67 million, for which Health Minister Dario Nakic signed contracts last week.
The HUP sector representing private employers providing medical services says that buying new equipment that already exists in the health system in private medical institutions, does not contribute to a real, positive reform of the system.
"Hiring private medical institutions with which the state and patients have had long-lasting positive experience can quickly result in shorter waiting lists for specialist examinations and reduce costs in the health system, to the benefit of patients," says the association, noting that the cooperation between private and public health institutions does not constitute the privatisation of the entire health system but rather enables better and more available medical services through more economical spending of insurees' money.
