Author: Roberta Mlinarić

ZAGREB, June 11 (Hina) - Works of the great Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky will be put on display in Zagreb's Art Pavilion in 2017 as part of events marking the 50th anniversary of the friendship between Saint Petersburg and Zagreb, while an exhibition of selected works from Saint Petersburg's Hermitage Museum will be staged in the Klovicevi Dvori gallery in 2018, it was announced at a news conference on Saturday.

Speaking at the news conference, among others, were Russian Ambassador Anvar Azimov, Hermitage Museum deputy director George Vilinbakhov, and Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandic.

Art Pavilion director Jasminka Poklecki Stosic said the exhibition of Kandinsky's works would also coincide with the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Croatia and the 150th anniversary of Kandinsky's birth.

We have sent invitations to museums across Europe, the USA and Russia to lend us his works for the exhibition, many museums have agreed to do so and talks with the Hermitage are still under way, she said.

Speaking about the 50th anniversary of the friendship between St. Petersburg and Zagreb and the 25th anniversary of Russian-Croatian diplomatic relations, Ambassador Azimov stressed that Russia was one of the first countries to recognise Croatia as an independent country.

The deputy director of the Klovicevi Dvori gallery, Petra Vugrinec, said that the exhibition of works from the Hermitage, to be staged in that gallery in 2018, would coincide with Russia's Independence Day.
