The survey, conducted by the Podgorica-based Damar market research agency, revealed that 38.8% of those polled were against NATO membership, while nearly 15% were undecided.
The government, which commissioned the survey, did not hide their satisfaction with the growing support for NATO membership because last year 63.6% of citizens had believed that Montenegro would join the alliance and now their number has increased by more than 10%.
The survey also showed that 58% of the respondents believed that NATO membership could speed up Montenegro's EU integration.
Montenegrin diplomats have increased their contacts with their colleagues in NATO member states in recent days to encourage ratification of the protocol on Montenegro's accession to NATO by national parliaments.
