Connolly is one of six foreign authors whose works will be promoted during the second edition of the Zagreb Book Festival on 16-22 May.
Commenting on his style, Connolly said in the interview published on Thursday that his mystery fiction "is a product of rationalist beliefs, but people aren't rational, and the universe is a lot stranger than rationalism allows...," He believes that all this gives the genre a new and unexpected dimension.
Connolly is the author of the Charlie Parker mysteries, the Samuel Johnson novels for middle-grade readers, and—with his partner, Jennifer Ridyard—the co-author of the Chronicles of the Invaders, as well as The Book of Lost Things and other works.
Topic relating to childhood, adolescence as well as revenge and redemption flowed through his works, and Connolly ascribed this to his Catholic background.
On 17 May, Connolly will promote The Burning Soul novel in Zagreb, and on 18 May he will attend an informal gathering called "Irish Coffee" within the said festival.
"The Burning Soul is a Parker book, and one of my favourites, I think. It's very low-key, with little violence, but a lot of menace," he said.
