SIP Chairman Ahmet Santic said that voters will go to the polls to elect 74 municipal councils in the Bosniak-Croatia Federation entity, 57 in the Serb entity of Republika Srpska (RS), 131 mayors, four city councils in the Federation and six in RS, 10 mayors and an assembly in the Brcko District.
Mostar is an exception because in 2009 certain provisions of the city statute regarding electoral units in the city were annulled as unconstitutional. Bosniak and Croatian political parties in government have still not reached an agreement on a new organisation of the city and citizens have not been able to vote for local government representatives.
"We could not call an election for the Mostar City Council considering the Constitutional Court's decision," Santic said.
The local election will cost around eight million convertible marks (about 4 million euros) and Santic claims that the funds have been secured, with half that amount coming from the state budget and the other half to be provided by local government units.
The electoral roll was concluded on May 3 and there are currently 3,345,486 eligible voters registered. That is 67,000 more voters than were registered for the 2014 election.
