During the swimming party, the revellers wished a happy new year and extended their best wishes to the pioneer of this tradition, Mrs Alma Seslija, for her 85th birthday.
"We do this as we like challenges, and we have a nice time," said a reveller, Igor Brkic, after the swim at noon Friday when the sea water temperature was 13C and the air temperature was five degree centigrade higher.
Some 200 passers-by watched the traditional swim, while Mrs Seslija recalled in her statement to the press that she had begun this New Year Day swim some 20 years ago.
The police in Istria County reported that New Year's Eve celebrations had passed peacefully.
