One corner of the Nativity set has three sheep fenced off with miniature razor wire, while on the other side is an exit in the shape of a triumphal arch decorated with laurel leaves, symbolising salvation. Because it is unusual, this year's Nativity scene is attracting more people.
"We wanted to depict the birth of Christ as victory over fear and make a statement that we don't accept fear, but want openness and freedom," Koper parish priest Primoz Krecic told the Primorske Novice local daily. "Everything which causes fear isn't good and we disagree with the physical and psychological fences arising in Europe and dividing people."
