The conference, which brought together some 200 experts, pointed out that every year some new 3,000 patients are diagnosed with dementia in Croatia, and Alzheimer's accounts for 70% of dementia cases.
Some 250,000 families care for these patients and they need more efficient support from society.
The head of the Croatian Alzheimer's Association, Ninoslav Mimica, said that Croatia had recently ensured the first 13 beds for patients suffering from this chronic neurodegenerative disease in the Medvescak old people's home in Zagreb.
