Croatia hopes to achieve 66 pct employment rate by 2020, says minister

Author: Hari Alfeo
OSIJEK, Nov 24 (Hina) - Labour Minister Mirando Mrsic said on Tuesday the European Union's goal was to achieve a 75 percent employment rate by 2020, while Croatia planned to reach 66% or 1.7-1.8 million employed persons.

Speaking at the 5th European Job Fair at Osijek's School of Economics, Mrsic said this event was part of activities to provide information about job opportunities in other EU countries as well as a chance for employers in the rest of the EU to introduce themselves to Croatian workers.

The results of the "Mechanisms of cross-border cooperation in EURES" project were presented at the event. The project was launched in June and was worth 200,000 euros, of which 180,000 came from the EU. It was carried out by the Croatian Employment Service and the Hungarian Economy Ministry. EURES is the European Job Mobility Portal.

Mrsic said strengthening cross-border cooperation in employment simplified the flow of the workforce between two countries.

Hungarian Ambassador Joszef Magyar said economic progress was evident in both Hungary and Croatia, as evidenced by a 35% trade increase in the first eight months of the year. He said this showed not only that there was interest in cooperation but that there was a quality workforce which could produce quality exportable goods.
