Hrvatin told the press that with the handing of the final election results to the president, DIP's job regarding the recent parliamentary poll had officially ended.
Spokesman for the President's Office Luka Djuric told the press that negotiations on prime minister designate would start on Thursday.
"President Grabar-Kitarovic received the final results of the parliamentary elections and all conditions for launching the consultations have been met. The consultations will be held Thursday," Djuric said.
The president will send out invitations to the leaders of all parliamentary parties elected to the 8th parliament, and the schedule of the consultations will be announced later.
Asked if he expected several rounds of talks, Djuric said: "We'll start with the first round and then we shall see."
The first sitting of the new parliament will be scheduled in accordance with the Constitution. The 20-day deadline for convening the first sitting of the new parliament starts running the day after DIP publishes the final election results in the National Gazette. DIP is expected to publish the final results today.
Asked if DIP was preparing for new elections, DIP chief Hrvatin said "no".
"No, but you see that we organised this past election in a very brief period of time and if necessary we will be ready." he added.
