The agency's report also shows that in the period between 2009 and 2013, the cost of drug consumption, according to results collected from hospital pharmacies, public pharmacies and other drug-stores, had risen by 12% or half a billion kuna.
However, financial outlays for drugs decreased by 200 million kuna in 2014, although there was an increase in consumption of medication.
In 2009, the pharmaceutical industry turnover was HRK 4.6 billion, in 2013 the figure rose to 5.2 billion, while those outlays dropped to 5 billion in 2014.
The highest sums go for chemotherapy and immunomodulating drugs, rising from HRK 605 million in 2009 to HRK 873 million in 2013.
Also, the consumption of medications for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases increased by 9% from 2009 to 2013. They are followed by psycholeptic drugs which produce a calming effect upon a person.
The financial costs for over-the-counter (OTC) drugs, medicines sold directly to a consumer without a prescription, rose from HRK 271 million in 2009 to 398 million kuna in 2013.
