Foreign campers have great penchant for Croatia

Author: Snježana Pezer
ZAGREB, Oct 28 (Hina) - Up to 80% of foreign campers have visited Croatia three or more times, indicates a survey presented on Wednesday at the 9th camp sites congress held in the coastal town of Biograd na Moru.
The congress, organised by the Croatian Camping Union (KUH), brought together more than 200 domestic and foreign participants mostly camp-site owners and directors and international experts from leading European camping associations.

Zrinka Marusic from the Zagreb Tourism Institute said that the survey was conducted on a sample of 958 respondents from 10 countries in more than 50 camp-sites in coastal counties in Croatia. She said that the average age of campers was 43 and that a little more than one-third were aged 50+.

She said that campers continued to be most satisfied by scenery, facilities for family holidays, personal safety and the hospitality by staff. They were least satisfied with amenities offered for the disabled at destinations, local transport services and entertainment offers.

Opening the congress which will continue until Friday, Deputy Tourism Minister Daglas Koraca recalled the ministry's tourism strategy until 2020 which foresees enhancing the camping experience, raising the category of camps and introducing additional quality standards.

Koraca outlined official statistics which indicate that by the end of August this year 2.2 million tourists camped in Croatia which was an increase of 4.3% compared with last year. They generated 15 million overnight stays or 3.2% more on the year.

The congress heard that currently there are 278 camp-sites in Croatia with a capacity of 237,700 beds, which represents a 23.1% share in total accommodation capacities in the country.
