Author: Marija Šestan

ZAGREB, Oct 23 (Hina) - Investments into Croatian islands are around HRK 1.5 billion annually, and in 2014 they increased to 1.8 billion kuna, with the bulk of this sum being allotted for upgrading transport connections, and the Jadrolinija shipping company purchased four new ferries for this purpose last year, according to information presented during a session of the Islands Council on Brac on Friday.

The Council, which consists of officials from the seven coastal counties and relevant ministries as well as representatives from the Croatian parliament, today discussed a report on effects of the implementation of the Islands Law in 2014.

Deputy Regional Development Minister Jaksa Puljiz and Assistant Agriculture Minister Davorka Hajdukovic outlined opportunities for EU-funded investments for Croatian islands under the schemes on improving competitiveness and boosting rural development.

The Council's members were also notified of possibilities for investments in the utilities and road infrastructure as well as for providing amenities such as pre-school education or cultural centres on Croatian islands.
