BOTOVO, Oct 17 (Hina) - Shortly after midnight Friday, some 30 Hungarian soldiers set up a steel fencing wire along the unofficial Croatian-Hungarian border crossing at Botovo, sealing off the border after the last group of refugees arriving from Tovarnik crossed the border by train.
On Friday, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced Hungary would seal off its border with Croatia from midnight to stem the flow of thousands of migrants arriving daily and step up control on official border crossings.
Hungarian military and police troops are deployed at Botovo and some of them are in full combat gear. According to unofficial sources, Hungarian government is expected to hold a news conference on Saturday morning.
Hungary has erected the barbed wire fence, saying it is duty-bound to secure the borders of the European Union.
