"Dear fellow citizens, let us go to the polls on November 8 and let us shape the future of our homeland," Grabar-Kitarovic said on Monday in her address to the nation.
The president called on the citizens to exercise their right and take responsibility and the political parties, independent slates and candidates to keep the election campaign fair.
"That will be the day when politicians answer to you and when democracy is getting its full meaning. Therefore I urge you to watch carefully what those running in the election race are offering, what their programmes are and how that will reflect on your everyday life over the next four years," Grabar-Kitarovic said.
The president underscored that the voters were in the focus of the election because by voting they were taking part in shaping Croatia's new legislative and executive authority. "This is why you need to go to the polls, exercise your right and take responsibility," the president said.
In her address to the nation, the president also underscored the important role of the media in the election campaign and their duty to provide clear information to voters so as to help them decide who to vote for.
"You form public opinion and you create critical but also affirmative civil awareness. Therefore, take this opportunity to make your contribution to the strengthening of social responsibility. Freedom of the media includes ethics and responsibility," the president said addressing the media.
