The Higgins and Langley Memorial and Education Award in Swiftwater Rescue will be presented in the United States on October 2, the HGSS announced in a press release on Thursday.
Every year this US foundation gives awards for outstanding achievement in swiftwater and flood rescue.
The HGSS said that the work and commitment of its members is often recognised by the public and other rescue organisations in Croatia and abroad. HGSS personnel helped rescue and evacuate several thousand people in Croatia and 600 people in neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2014 when the two countries were hit by severe flooding.
Established in 1950, the HGSS is a member of the International Commission for Alpine Rescue (ICAR) and is one of the founders of the European Cave Rescue Association (ECRA).
