The ministry notes that those shrines are also places of interest for tourists coming from Poland, Spain and the United States, apart from domestic visitors.
Religious tourism is part of cultural tourism for which the Tourism Ministry has recently drawn up an action plan, and it is perceived as a tourist product in which there is great potential for growth and development of Croatia, given that this type of tourism could be promoted all year round, Minister Darko Lorencin has said in his comment.
Some major Marian shrines are Marija Bistrica in northern Croatia, Sinj, Trsat in Rijeka, Aljmas near Osijek, Vepric near Makarska, and Krasno on the slopes of Mount Velebit.
