"Tourism or oil," "Enable investments in solar energy," "Thank you firemen!" are some of the messages the activists displayed on the St Ivan fortress. The messages were written in seven languages -- Croatian, English, Spanish, Italian, German, Greek, Slovenia and Hungarian, Greenpeace Croatia said in a statement.
"At times when the world is turning to renewables, Minister Vrdoljak is aggressively and non-transparently rushing into signing 30-year contracts putting the Adriatic Sea into the hands of foreign oil companies. Drilling of the Adriatic will directly endanger our sea, tourism and the fishing industry. A majority of Croatian citizens can recognise this risk and recent opinion polls show us that," Greeenpeace activist Marko Gregovic said.
The Greenpeace campaign in Dubrovnik is part of the international energy campaign called "paradise project" which promotes renewables in the Mediterranean as an alternative to fossil fuels.
