The conference will enhance celebrations marking Cigoc Day observed on 27 June in memory of 27 June 1994 when Euronatur proclaimed Cigoc as the first European village of storks.
The agreement, which will be signed during the conference, will facilitate participation in joint projects on sustainable management of stork habitats and raising awareness of nature protection, the head of the Lonjsko Polje nature park Ivor Stanivukovic said.
The agreement will serve as the basis to apply for EU funds, the head of the Sisak City office for education, culture and sports Goran Grgurac explained.
The conference will bring together around 50 participants from Croatia and other 13 European countries - Austria, Hungary, Germany, Poland, Spain, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Serbia, Switzerland, Turkey, Macedonia and Bulgaria -- to discuss the protection of the white stork, cooperation with zoological gardens and possible insertion of transmitters.
