Dance Week Festival to focus on migration

Author: spez
ZAGREB, June 10 (Hina) - The Dance Week Festival in Zagreb, which this year is organised in the form of three separate programmes, continues on June 13 with its international selection of artists.

The festival's international programme this year is dedicated to the topic of migration and identity.

The programme will start on June 13 with the project "Migrant Bodies", consisting of six dance pieces made by choreographers from Canada, Italy, Croatia and France.

The festival's founder and art director, Mirna Zagar, said that migration was an increasingly important topic in Croatia as well, especially in the context of the country's membership of the EU and its membership obligations.

Zagar said that a large part of the festival's international programme would be dedicated to the French contemporary dance scene, to be presented in cooperation with the Rendez-vous festival of French culture in Croatia.

The festival features one of France's best known contemporary dance artists, Boris Charmatz, as well as two African artists whose work is supported by France - Nacera Belaza and Vincent Mantsoe. Also featured will be French choreographer Myriam Gourfink, the dance duo Sine Qua Non Art, Collectif Es, and Franck Vigroux.

Also participating in the festival will be mime Karina Holla of the Netherlands, choreographer Thierry Smits of Belgium, Concha Vidal of Spain, Teatar Bretoncaffe of Poland, and Giorgia Nardin and Alessandro Sciarroni of Italy.

The last performance of the international programme will be the Swiss-German co-production "Supernatural" by Simone Aughterlony.

The Dance Week Festival started on May 29 with performances by Croatian dance artists, an international conference on dance strategies, dance workshops, auditions, talks and film screenings.

The event ends on June 20.

The central venue of the Dance Week Festival is the Zagreb Dance Centre, and the festival is also taking place at the Zagreb Youth Theatre, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Gavella theatre, the KIC cultural-information centre and the Student Centre.
