The route is part of a national bicycle route running along the left bank of the River Sava from the border with Serbia to the border with Slovenia.
Project manager Darinka Jug of the My Bicycle association said the route from Ivanic Grad to the border with Slovenia would be financed mostly with EU funds for regional development.
The project is about to enter its second stage in July and it should be completed in 2016, Jug said, adding that the route was expected to be opened in 2017.
She called on potential users and the public to send the association their suggestions so that the project could be implemented in the best possible way.
Zagreb County head Stjepan Kozaric said he hoped that many of some 60 million bicycle-tourists would travel along the new route, thus contributing to local tourism and economy.
